Luke 16:10

i've come to the conclusion that i'm just no good at this blogging thing!

i don't know where the time has gone, but it keeps on getting away from me. every.single.day. at least lately i can say i've been busy, but this summer? no excuse whatsoever.

it's just that most days i don't really have anything interesting to tell about. nothing interesting enough to mention anyway. just life.

but to catch you all up on what my life is about these days, i guess i can fill you in.

school has started. in case you hadn't noticed. for us that means homeschooling. and if you hadn't known that before, yes, i said *homeschooling*. UFF DA is all i have to say about that! Josey and i have decided that as long as we don't work on math together, we're good. the last few times i think i could have worked myself bald. pulling my hair out, that is. i've always been good at math, so when he doesn't get it, i just don't get it. to me, it just makes sense. what is there to explain? i mean seriously....

∏ (yes, that's pi, just go with me on this)... ∏ just = 3.14 dot dot dot to infinite, right? do we really need to know HOW to figure it out?   ....and...

the sq root of something is NOT that # divided by 2! seriously! and don't ask me how to FIND it, you just have to KNOW it. c'mon, everyone knows that!    ....and....

just HOW many times do we have to go over multiplication of fractions? really?  and let's not even get into division of those same fractions!

like i said: UFF DA!!!!

but do it on his own....he just gets it! go figure!  ha! *go figure*....math pun...and i didn't even mean to do it!

but i guess i couldn't ask for a better kid. if you don't know him, you should. and if you do know him, you know you are blessed.  he's the glue that holds this family together.....without him, i wouldn't be a family ;) and he's the cheapest dishwasher i've found yet. the best part? he loves Jesus! can't go wrong with that!

the start of school also means that i'm back to doing childcare. but this time around doesn't just mean little E. and *little* E isn't all that little anymore. she's growing up! *tear*  this time around, there is also little V who comes with little E. 4 months old in september. and little E already turned THREE in september! she wasn't even ONE yet when she first *joined* our little family. oh how time flies!  but i tell you, this new little V is one of the easiest, happiest, smily-est (yes, that's a word!) babes i have ever known. 2nd only to my own kid at that age. now, if you wanted to know THE easiest, happiest, smily-est (yes, it's still a word) babes, well, you didn't have to look any further than my own! and he's still one of the easiest, happiest, smily-est (still a word) kids i know. but i digress....  little V and not-so-little E just add a little more fun and excitement to our home each and every day. i don't think i could adore 2 little girls more.

in addition to these 2 little girls, we also have taken on a little boy. however, i just have him for a few hours one day a week. he definitely brings some fun and excitement to our home whenever he's here. yep, our cutie patootie L is pretty special to us too. he's my new little bud and we adore him just as much as E & V. and i think Josey enjoys having a *little brother* in the house once in a while too ;) at least then he doesn't feel so outnumbered.

then there's Goliath. for those of you who have not yet had the pleasure to meet this *giant* of a dog (and i use the term *giant* very VERY loosely), you have def been missing out. altho he can get pretty annoying some days (ok, ok...i admit, it's MOST days), we sure do love that pup. he actually turned one in march, so he's really not too much of a pup anymore. no matter how much he acts like one. well, i take that back. he acts more like a real child than anything. or a cat. or a squirrel. or a rabbit. something like that. if you've ever seen Toothless in the movie How to Train Your Dragon, then you somewhat know Goliath. just increase his size by about 10,000, give him wings, and you've got the star of the movie. at any rate, Goliath surely keeps us busy. and for some reason, he frightens little L. could be that L has never seen such a big dog before? hhhmmmm....could be something to that after all ;)  but anyway....our *giant* of a dog keeps us on our toes. at least me. all i have to say is that he only gets into my yarn once every few weeks now. used to be that we would be afraid to walk in the door, for fear of getting tangled in the web he would weave while we were gone. for a while i think i tossed out more yarn than i actually crocheted. i was beginning to think that maybe he was partying with cats while we were gone. needless to say, i keep the yarn under lock and key these days.

 yep, that's Goliath's handiwork

we went thru some dog training this summer with Goliath. i could say he needed it, but i think it was me who needed it more. i just didn't know where to even begin with him. if i said "sit" he ran. if i told him "no"  he would do it more. and walking with him? gggrrrrrr.....(that was me, not him). altho, his bark is def worse than his bite. Goliath would see dogs 10x his size and you'd think he was going to rip them apart, the way he snarled, growled, barked, thrashed, pulled, and downright SPAZZED OUT! it got so bad for a while that the more we tried to get him to stop, the worse he got. i was starting to think that i might have to carry a bag with me, to toss him into whenever we would even glimpse another dog. seriously! either that or walk without him. but what's the sense in having a dog and a leash if you aren't going to take him for walks? plus, there were days when i would have had to walk alone if Goliath didn't go with me *sigh*  so we went thru dog training. THE FIRST DAY we had improvement. like about 200%! we went for a walk before training, and then we went for a walk after training...just to see the difference. he was a whole different dog! he heeled. he stopped barking at dogs. ok, well, he didn't entirely stop...but one or 2 barks compared to snarling, growling, barking, thrashing, pulling and downright SPAZZING OUT was a def improvement! i was now (finally) a happy dog owner. if i had only done it with the many MANY dogs i've had over the years, i may have enjoyed them so much more. to this day (which is about 5 months after the fact), Goliath will still heel and sit and stay and be quiet when we remind him. now to just train ME to remind him instead of becoming frustrated that he's not reading my mind! ha!

another thing that has been keeping me occupied has been a couple part-time jobs. one lasted thru the summer and one is ongoing. i cleaned cabins for a family every saturday during june, july and august. that was a nice little job for a nice little extra income. the other job is doing bookkeeping for another family's business. how different can all my jobs be from each other? sheesh! i just now realized that.  anyway, the bookkeeping job is just a few hours every week, and it gives me a nice little extra income too.

let's see....what else has been keeping me away from blogging these days? hhhmmmm.....let me think....can you think of anything else that might be keeping me busy lately? o wait....i think i know....

if you go to www.facebook.com/thelittlethings2011 (it's a public page, so anyone can view it, even if you don't have a facebook profile) you'll see more of what i've been up to.
oh, and i've got a new name for my new business. now, instead of the un-inspired name of "dawn's hats", it is now called The Little Things. i was having a tough time finding the perfect name for my biz, so i did a contest give-away. whoever could come up with the name would win a free item from The Little Things. i have to say that i got some very...ahem...*creative* suggestions (again, loosely). after reading some of them, Josey and i had a good chuckle over my posted *suggestion* of "the happy hooker"....because after reading some of those *creative* suggestions, i might as well have gone with that! o boy! the suggestions stopped after i posted, so i had to reassure everyone i was ONLY JOKING! regardless, Josey and i had some good laughs over some of them :)

but finally the perfect name appeared....and stuck. here is what she selected...

isn't that the cutest photo you've ever seen? and she even created the ad for me ;)
talk about team spirit! woohoo! go otters! or gophers! or whatever your team is...

if you have not yet found someone to do your family photo shoot, you need to go to www.reflectionmediaonline.wordpress.com and check out what she can do. it's amazing what a little camera can capture!  she is a sweetheart and a lot of fun too. you cannot go wrong with this girl :)

and you can catch a little blurb about The Little Things (not to mention our own personal photo shoot) at

and go here to see some of the baby props i made for her.....

well, that's about it for our lives over the past (several) months....so you can blame all that for stealing time away from blogging and keeping you updated on what we're about.

we are so enjoying the blessings God has so graciously given us. although we may not have a large house, a luxury car, tons of cash, a home on the beach, or a villa in the mountains, we are rich in *the little things*
